At this time of year when most of us are thinking of loved ones and family, we here at Eastport Labor of Love are thinking of our neighbors in need, balancing our books and meeting our fundraising goals for 2018.
We have received much help from these local high school students assembling Christmas food baskets for delivery around the area to families in need. Sometimes the added burden of paying for heat in the winter is the budget buster that leaves some families just not able to make ends meet. Our food basket distribution puts a Christmas dinner on the table for people who might otherwise have gone without. Community members and local churches get together to ensure each delivery is made when and where it is needed most. Contributions of poultry, vegetables, stuffing, potatoes, and all the fixings are carefully gathered through the Thanksgiving season, and on two days, over five tons of holiday food is distributed through the area.
